Heart disease claims the lives of more American women than anything else, each year, and it is most prevalent among African American women due to the disproportionate tendencies towards obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes. This year, Divas, MPH has taken a stand to help women take actionable steps to reducing their risk of heart disease and adopting a heart healthy lifestyle through a series of events beginning with “Love, Mom: A Mother’sDay Brunch from the Heart.”
Join us, along with our campaign spokeswoman, Joi-Marie McKenzie, on Sunday, May 13, 2012, Mother’s Day, at Ulah Bistro in Northwest Washington, DC from 12:30pm to 3pm. The event will feature a delicious 3-course heart healthy brunch, complimentary mimosas, gifts and prizes to shower your mom with, and a introduce to our 10-week summer series, Jumpstart Your HEART (Health Education, Action, Resources and Training).
We hope that you, your mother, your grandmother, and all the hearts you love will join us as we launch our heart health campaign to reverse the heart disease trend in our communities by taking the first step towards awareness, action, and a heart healthy you.

Embrace the Whole You

I wanted to offer some tips on how to reduce stress and embrace total health and wellness.

  •  Mediate 15 minutes a day and quiet your mind.  Free yourself of any stressors.
  • Use your time wisely.  It is a valuable resource.
  •  Eat healthy foods and exercise at least 3 times a week.  You will look and feel great!
  • Encourage yourself constantly.  Your biggest advocate is YOU!
  • Spend quality time with family and friends.  They are a great treasure to have.

Benefits of African Black Soap

From my adolescence to the present, I have tried everything under the sun for my skin, especially for my face.  I suffered with acne and I wanted that special beauty product that would work for my skin.  Recently, I discovered one of the best products: African Black Soap.  This particular soap offers so many benefits.

Made from dried plantain skins, palm leaves, cocoa pod powder, and kernel oil, African Black Soap is considered to be an all-natural cleaning soap.  The soap is free of any preservatives, fragrances, or color enhancers.  The soap cleanses the impurities in the hair, face, hands, and body.  It works well on most skin types, including dry, rough, or sensitive skin.  African Black Soap also is useful in removing makeup and helps relieve skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and oily skin.  It can remove the skin that was damaged over the years.  In addition to removing impurities, African Black Soap contains vitamins A and E, as well as iron, which helps to strengthen the skin and hair.

After researching more about this wonderful product, I tried it for myself and I have noticed a difference in my skin within the past week.  My skin feels soft, moisturized, and cleansed.  My dark spots on my face are also diminishing.  I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants a deep cleaning to their skin or wants to improve their skin.

                                                                                                                  -Savvy B

what the codes on your fruits and veggies really mean - 4 numbers mean they were conventionally grown, 5 numbers starting with number 8 means they are genetically modified (gmo), and 5 numbers starting with 9 means they were organically grown (no pesticides or gmos)
everyone should already know this information, but if not here it is!

I have an acute fear of those stickers.
AAAAAAH

Next time pay attention to the stickers on your fruit!
